What the Fork: Fiber One
I'm calling out Fiber One Honey Clusters, but the whole Fiber One line is equal garbage.
Fiber is a vital component of our diets, but we should consume them in their natural state- not in these man made, processed garbage "food" products.
Just look at these ingredients:
Whole Grain Wheat, Corn Bran, Wheat Bran, Chicory Root Extract, Whole Grain Oats, Crisp Oats (Rice Flour, Whole Grain Oats, Sugar, Malt Extract, Toasted Oats (Whole Grain Oats, Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Soybean Oil, Honey, Brown Sugar, Molasses), Salt, Wheat Bits (Whole Grain Wheat, Corn Starch, Corn Flour ,Sugar, Salt, Trisodium Phosphate, Baking Soda, Color Added), Barley Malt Extract, Honey, Modified Corn Starch, Malt Syrup, Tripotassium Phosphate, Color Added, Cinnamon, Natural And Artificial Flavor, Sucralose, Walnut Meal, Almond Meal, Nonfat Milk. Vitamin E (Mixed Tocopherols) And BHT Added To Preserve Freshness. Vitamins And Minerals: Calcium Carbonate, Zinc And Iron (Mineral Nutrients), Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate), A B Vitamin (Niacinamide), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride), A B Vitamin (Folic Acid), Vitamin B12.
Great sources of fiber: veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, peas are some super high in fiber), oats, brown rice, fruit (such as apples, bananas & pears), chia seeds, & quinoa. These are foods that your body recognize as food.
I just want to point out some of the major red flags in these ingredients. You can see the full ingredient list in the comments.
Wheat- it's not organic which means it's sprayed heavily with the known carcinogenic Glyphosate and other pesticides and herbicides.
Corn- again not organic so it's GMO & heavily sprayed with pesticides and herbicides.
White refined sugar- sugar is awful on so many levels, feeds tumors and cancer cells, spikes your insulin, over consumption can lead to diabetes over time, is more addictive than cocaine...it goes on!
High fructose corn syrup- GMO and again sprayed heavily with toxic pesticides and herbicides. Also another form of sugar and is even worse for you than refined white sugar because of the high levels of fructose.
Soybean oil- more pesticide sprayed GMO crops.
More sugar (honey, brown sugar & molasses)
Trisodium Phosphate- a heavy duty cleaning agent. Go ahead. Google TSP and the first images that pop up are heavy duty cleaners that you would find on the shelves of home depot. You will also find websites claiming it's safe and FDA approved. This is ridiculous. We shouldn't be eating this junk. When did it become okay to defend putting additives in our food like this? Bottom line, we don't need it in our bodies, it's there to preserve the food longer so it can sit on shelves for years and the company profits from it.
Sucralose- aka splenda. An artificial sugar linked to tumor growth.
BHT- Butylated hydroxytoluene. A toluene-based ingredient used as a preservative in food and personal care products. It has been linked to colon cancer & is another preservative that we do not need in our food. We should be eating FOOD, not a toxic storm of additives.
